True hybrid camera, the Panasonic Lumix GH4 Mirrorless Camera is made for both professional photo and video use. With a 16.05-megapixel Digital Live MOS sensor and a 4-CPU Venus Engine, it can record UHD 4K 3840x2160 30p/24p and cinematic DCI 4K 4096x2160 video at 24p in addition to high-resolution JPEG and RAW stills. Similar to its predecessor, the GH4 has a magnesium alloy body that is weather-sealed, but it also has a higher resolution OLED screen and electronic viewfinder. Additionally, it has in-camera creative controls, built-in Wi-Fi with NFC technology, and a quick 49-point autofocus in both photo and video mode.

Video quality produced by the GH4 is superior to that of many professional video cameras. AVCHD and AVCHD Progressive are effective formats for recording video, as are 200 Mbps All-Intra, 100 Mbps IPB MOV, and MP4 formats. Additionally, the GH4's global camera design allows the system frequency to be changed between 59.94 Hz (23.98 Hz) and 50 Hz, providing a variety of recording options including 23.98p, 25p, 29.97p, 50p, and 59.94p. Additionally, the system can be set to 24 Hz to record in true 24p at HD and 4K resolutions.

SD/SDHC/SDXC memory cards are used to store both images and video. SDHC/SDXC UHS-I Speed Class 3 (U3) cards are supported for high-speed 100 Mbps and 200 Mbps formats. 4:2:0 8-bit video is recorded to SD cards. With an optional micro HDMI cable, real-time 4:2:2 8-bit and 4:2:2 10-bit video can also be sent to an external monitor or recorder. Focus peaking, timecode support, and gamma options akin to those found in movies are additional video features. Videos with VBR (Variable Frame Rate), time-lapse, and stop motion animation can be internally recorded for distinctive expressions without the need for additional post-production work. The GH4 includes a lithium-ion battery pack that can be recharged, a battery charger with an AC cable, a body cap, a hot shoe cover, a USB cable, a shoulder strap, and a DVD with included software.

16.05 Megapixel Digital Live MOS Sensor and Venus Engine

The Digital Live MOS sensor, which has a resolution of 16.05 megapixels, produces sharp images with high sensitivity and quick response times. Rolling shutter effects are reduced thanks to the faster signal readout. You'll benefit from significantly improved sensitivity (up to ISO 25600), gradation performance, resolution, and colour reproduction in conjunction with the quad-core Venus Engine image processor.

Micro Four Thirds System and Lens Mount

The 4/3" type sensor in the DMC-GH4 is big enough for shallow depth of field while remaining small enough to use lighter, more compact lenses than a larger format camera would need. Additionally, the Micro Four Thirds Lens Mount's short flange focal distance allows for the addition of optional adapters (sold separately) to use a variety of lenses, including PL-mount cinema lenses.

Dual OLED Displays - Monitor and Live View Finder

The Live View Finder and the rear monitor both have high-speed organic LED displays. The LVF has a 2,359K-dot resolution, while the 3.0" monitor has a 1,036K-dot resolution and a touchscreen interface for easy control. These displays have a 10,000:1 contrast ratio and 100% coverage. For effortless shooting with both, an Eye Sensor automatically switches between the Live View-Finder and the rear monitor.

Magnesium Alloy, Weather Sealed Body

Front and back frames made entirely of magnesium alloy are featured on the DMC-GH4. The joints and control components are completely sealed to create a splash and dustproof design. The shutter is rated for about 200,000 releases to further meet the requirements of professional use.

Wi-Fi with NFC Technology

With Wi-Fi and NFC integration, the Panasonic DMC-GH4 enables remote photo and video shooting with compatible smartphones and tablets via the Panasonic Image App. The app also allows you to add location information to an image after you've taken it. You can still connect to the camera even if your mobile device isn't NFC capable by scanning a QR code that is shown on the GH4's monitor.

49-Area AF / Custom Multi AF

With 49 points in the newly created AF system, you have more creative control over shot composition. With the option to freely choose which blocks to focus from among the 49 possible focusing areas, the Custom Multi mode increases flexibility even further.

High-Speed Autofocus

DFD (Depth from Defocus) technology is integrated into the high-precision Contrast AF to achieve AF speeds of roughly 0.07 seconds in AFS mode. This enables the camera to shoot in AFS mode in bursts of 12 fps.

Silent Mode

With just one setting, the Silent mode converts the shutter from mechanical to electronic, silences all sounds, and dims the AD assist lamp and flash. This is helpful when taking pictures in settings where the camera's noise and light would distract performers or people nearby.

In-Camera RAW Data Development

Instead of relying on post-processing, take RAW photos and convert them to JPEG images in-camera. You can change the hue, white balance, noise reduction, sharpness, and colour space settings (sRGB or AdobeRGB). You can also use Lumix's Photo Style, Intelligent D-Range Control, and Intelligent Resolution.

Picture Profiles

A variety of Photo Styles and Creative Control options are available. Standard, Vivid, Natural, Monochrome, Scenery, Portrait, and Custom are among the photo styles available for still images or video. For each mode, the camera's memory can be used to set the parameters for contrast, sharpness, noise reduction, saturation, and hue.

Professional 4K Video Recording

By supporting both 16:9 UHD 4K 3840x2160 video at 23.98p, 24p, or 29.97p and 17:9 DCI (Digital Cinema Initiatives) 4K 4096x2160 videos at 24p, the DMC-GH4 ushers the GH-line into the 4K era. High bitrate 100 Mbps IPB codecs are compatible with 4K resolutions when recording as MOV or MP4 files. You need an SDHC/SDXC memory card that can handle the transfer speed when recording at 100 Mbps.

Please be aware that 4K recording modes use a 1:1 pixel map of the sensor for better quality. When shooting DCI 4K resolution, this results in a slight crop of the sensor, giving an approximate full-frame crop factor of about 2.3x.

Selectable System Frequency

With a system frequency switchable between 59.94 Hz (23.98 Hz) and 50 Hz, the DMC-GH4 is a true global camera. For true 24 fps cinematic video, you can also choose the 24 Hz frequency option.

VFR (Variable Frame Rate)

Depending on the video format and system frequency chosen, the VFR mode allows for the recording of Full HD video in either slow motion or fast motion.
