DESCRIPTION
The Nikon Z 50 is a DX-format mirrorless digital camera with a particularly svelte design that revolves around the adaptable Z Mount. The 20.9MP CMOS sensor and EXPEED 6 image processor in the Z 50, which excels in both stills and video, allow for quick performance up to 11 fps, a dependable 209-point hybrid AF system with eye detection, and noteworthy low-light performance to ISO 51200. In addition to Full HD recording at up to 120 fps for slow-motion playback, UHD 4K is enabled for video shooters up to 30 frames per second. In-camera clip cutting, 20 Creative Picture Controls, and 10 Special Effects options can be utilised to fine-tune your photographs and videos and give them a distinctive appearance.
Although the body is incredibly slim, it is nonetheless ergonomic for all-day photography. A high-resolution 2.36 million dot OLED EVF provides clear eye-level viewing for working in bright environments, and the 3.2" back touchscreen LCD offers a 180° flip-down design that is ideal for selfies. For operating in bad weather, the magnesium alloy body is also weather-sealed. Additionally, for simple sharing, built-in Wi-Fi and Bluetooth integrate with the Nikon SnapBridge software to provide wireless photo and video transfers as well as remote camera control from your mobile device.
20.9MP DX-Format CMOS Sensor and EXPEED 6 Image Processor
The EXPEED 6 image engine is combined with the DX-format 20.9MP CMOS sensor to offer a flexible blend of high sensitivity, nuanced image quality, and quick overall performance. A sensitivity range of ISO 100–51200 at native values enables working in a wide range of lighting settings, and it can be extended up to ISO 204800 for extremely low light conditions. Additionally, the combination of resolution and sensor size results in clear image quality, seamless colour transitions, and less noise across the whole sensitivity range.
The EXPEED 6 processor not only improves image quality but also grants the camera system a wealth of speed, with a high full-resolution continuous shooting rate of 11 fps and 30 fps shooting at 8MP.In addition to image capabilities, the sensor's architecture includes a 209-point hybrid autofocus system that employs both phase-detection and contrast-detection techniques to quickly and precisely acquire focus for both stills and video applications. Additionally, this focusing system offers Eye Detection AF, which makes use of facial recognition to assist in focusing on the eyes of people.
UHD 4K Video Recording
The Z 50 can record videos in addition to still images, including UHD 4K video at up to 30 frames per second and Full HD video at up to 120 frames per second for slow-motion effects. Movie files can be saved to internal memory cards or an optional external recorder via HDMI out. With the capacity to create a final UHD 4K video clip directly from the camera, in-camera time-lapse recording is also feasible.
Body Design and Connectivity
- A large 3.2" 1.04m-dot LCD screen is available for bright, clear, and vivid image playback and live view shooting. The screen has a 180° flip-under tilting design, which benefits front-facing selfie captures, and it is also a touchscreen for more intuitive operation, navigation, and settings control.
- A 3.6m-dot electronic finder is present for comfortable eye-level viewing. It has a 1.02x magnification and uses NIKKOR optics to guarantee a sharp, clear image.
- Single SD memory card slots supports up to the UHS-I protocol for quickly storing photo and video files.
- A robust magnesium alloy chassis is both dust- and weather-resistant to benefit working in harsh climates and inclement conditions.
- Built-in SnapBridge connectivity to enable seamless transfer of low-resolution imagery as well as remote shooting capabilities. BLE (Bluetooth Low Energy) and Wi-Fi enables communication between the camera and a smart device and, additionally, the mobile device can remotely trigger the shutter and display a live view image from the camera to enable working from a distance.
- Included EN-EL25 rechargeable lithium-ion battery provides approximately 300 shots per charge, and in-camera charging is supported when using the optional EH-73P charging AC adapter.
